Mr Randy showed us a film that really got me thinking. a film regarding the 1999 columbine high massacre. i got a shock when the statistics and data were shown on the screen. is usa really so.. so not like what i thought it'll be? somehow i find it hard to believe that they did so many things. like providing firearms for iran to get rid of some race. i can't remember. or invading some country when their leader doesn't comply to usa's instructions. and they (usa) install a new leader in that invaded country. i don't really believe it. ms krishnan really comes into the picture here. its history, and everything history has something to do with ms krishnan.
after watching like half or three quarters of the film, i've decided that guns are neither evil nor good. they're just tools that people use.
mr randy said this.''it takes only 15 cents to kill a person. because a bullet only costs that much.'' is it really that easy to kill? i really don't think so. yes its cheap to purchase a bullet. its a simple action of just pulling the trigger. but how much courage does it take? when you know fully well, that the simple action of pulling a trigger would end a person's life, and erase him from the face of the earth forever. when a person dies, the people who suffer the most are the people around him. the dead doesn't suffer; the living does.
maybe the word 'courageous' didn't apply to the two gunmen. i think 'psychotic' is a better word to describe them. they were under a situation where they were oppressed and bullied by everyone around them. no one offered them a helping hand i guess. the stuff they drew were scary- people going down in flames, bombs, guns, messages full of hatred and anger.
in the film, they mentioned that one of the reasons why the two students snapped, is the availability of guns. kids can walk into a supermarket, purchase a gun and walk out. citizens can open bank accounts and get free guns, with a brochure on the variety of guns they have, the bank even provides instructions on using the gun. and there are the bullets. the cheap cheap bullets. bullets can be bought from any random shop. imagine someone walking up to a barber and order a box of bullets.
the NRA [National Rifle Association] promotes the usefulness of a gun. they claim its for self defense, and to defend the people they love, like their family. but we all know that they just want business. (who would be so stupid to shoot themselves in the leg.) People who buy guns gave the same reason. ''if i don't protect my family and i, who would? the state? the police?'' it makes sense i guess. after all america is a big country. you can't count on the state to protect everyone. and who can guarantee that the policemen will put their lives at risk to protect civilians? the citizens have to rely on themselves for protection.
but can't the state work to reduce crime rate? if a city's crime rate decreases, the need for guns would decrease. who needs guns for self defense when there's almost nothing to defend against?
okay the sentences are getting weird.
my brain is shutting down.
guns are powerful. guns seem to have a life of their own. the pure power they possess can influence a person's mind, especially when he is a victim of bullying. being bullied makes you feel powerless and weak. so i guess that if a victim gets hold of a gun, he'll probably be overwhelmed by the power he has in his hands. and he'll be taken over by his anger. he seeks revenge using his new-found 'strength'. this makes me feel that guns are evil.
okay i've typed out a rare long post about random stuff that has been on my head for hours.
